it was like SITE Santa Fe

what did i eat?

fragmentary.

Sitting around with a bunch of young people, many from out of the country. Artists? A young soldier from Morocco is saying his farewells, as he is being forced to return home. I suggest to him that we try something else, that he could perhaps hide out with us, but it is not a good idea. He hands me a written statement that is very eloquent. On his way out he quips about not being able to read English, I tell him that we can get him some kids books to help him learn.

Hanging around in a large, concrete walled/floored gallery, I'm there as a consultant on the installation of this group show. Everything looks pretty good. I take time to look at one particular mechanized sculpture. Doors that swing forward as sections of bent pipe rotate. The whole thing comes together to form two columns of chinese calligraphy. Another artist has a series of white boxes with plex panels projecte in front of them. They produce sounds, perhaps some sort of visual. Rather like the Jim Campbell LCD pieces at SITE.
