Maco Polo show (dream 2 for today)

stroganoff with broccoli, mint ice cream, some otter pops, water

In a meeting in some basement space with museum people (I've been here before). I wish I could get out of this damn meeting. Linda wants me to look at the material. They hand over a huge roll of paper, three feet across. It is handled clumsily and I almost drop/rip it. It is blueprints, installation plans for a giant show at some giant museum. It becomes a newspaper mock-up (although it is like it has already been published), about Marco Polo, which apparently is this exhibit we are discussing. Linda wonders is I see any indication of a mid-summer date. I look at the material, but only see one calendrical notation, "May" in a caption on a map about Marco Polo's route through Asia. The map has several different routes he could have taken, several of which seem to peter out in Central Asia. I think the historians have really stretched it in putting together this highly questionable map.

Downtown with people from the museum. We're walking west, down Central or Gold, heading for some store, which I think is next to the Launchpad. We stop at a junky dollar-store type extablishment, where Bonnie claims that she has gotten nice jewelry for cheap in the past. She shows me two rings she is wearing, one of which is gold with a flat, square top set with several different colored stones. It is pretty tacky. (I don't remember what the other ring looked like.)

I go in the store with someone from our group, maybe it's Josh. The others go on toward our destination or mill around outside and wait for us. On my way into the store, through a little windbreak chamber, the giant glass window in the front suddenly shatters. I did nothing to it, and I am worried that someone will blame me, as I was just passing as it broke. But the clerk seems disinterested, and I sort of shrug and go on inside. Looking around the store, it is mostly beauty stuff, toiletries, clip-on hair extension type stuff. No jewelry is readily apparent. Rather like a wierd Asian convenience store. I look at a huge wall of toothpastes from Mexico, many with seemingly strange ingredients: various herbal treatments, some I'm guessing have shrimp in them. I look for a tube with beef flavor-- I've seen it before, somewhere-- but I don't find it.

At the back are some food items, again a very strange assortment. Crackers, jars of whatever. I find some "Mexican Cinnamon," which comes in a clutch or hard, wrinkled tubes, like dried sausages, strung together at one end. I realize that I can get this stuff and make Oaxacan hot chocolate. I turn into Cab Calloway, in a dark zoot, and I do a number about the cinnamon, right there in the store.
